US Ambassador to Haiti, Pamela Ann White

According to former Lower House President, Levaillant Louis-Jeune, Pamela Ann White, the United States Ambassador to Haiti, has become the one-woman representative of all things regarding the National Palace.

Louis-Jeune stated that a group of Minister's of Parliament was contriving to send a letter to the United States President, Barack Obama, informing him of the Haitian Ambassador's less than diplomatic behavior.

Pamela Ann White is widely considered a Martelly Administration spokesperson and as such her credibility suffers. As such, INITE, the National Coordinator, took her late statement about an election this year without weight.

Born in Lewiston Maine, in 1948, Pamela Ann White, US Ambassador stationed in Haiti, spent her formative years in nearby Auburn. She graduated from the Edward Little High School in 1967 and went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Maine in 1971.

Barack Obama to honor Doctor Jerry Lowney for work in Haiti

It started as an outreach program dreamt up while its founder was on a medical trip to Haiti. Dr. Jeremiah 'Jerry' Lowney went to Jérémie, Haiti, to take stock of the health needs and offer his skills as a dentist in the regional clinics. Moved by what he saw, Lowney built an outpatient clinic, offering the full spectrum of care, however basic, to the families within the community. It was the birth of the HHF (Haitian Health Foundation), and is the reason for this remarkable man's new distinction, being among United States President, Barack Obama's 12 Champions of Change.

When he built the first HHF building with his own resources in the early '80's, Lowney was able to give immediate help to the poor and desperate through the clinic and other facilities housing X-ray equipment and a full laboratory. His initial effort grew to where HHF aid is offered in 104 rural communities, a representation of a quarter million of the poorest in the hemisphere.

Barack Obama Election, What Does it Mean to Haiti?

United States President Barack Obama's recent re-election has been welcomed by the Haitian government. President Michel Martelly congratulated Obama, who defeated Republican Mitt Romney. Martelly wished Obama the best of luck in running the United States for the second term. He also expressed hope that the two countries would continue their strong ties and that bilateral cooperation would strengthen even more.

Haiti is seen as one of the Caribbean nations that were probably relieved by Obama's victory. However, Interior Minister Rosnard Saint-Cyr said before the U.S. election that whoever wins the race does not really matter because the U.S. policy towards Haiti will not change. This was somehow opposed by some critics who believe that an Obama victory would be better for Haiti than a Romney leadership.

What do we Haitians get for helping to Re-elect Barack Obama?

Haiti United States

This is not scientific but I can safely say that more than eighty percent of Haitians who are eligible to vote in the US actually voted for Barack Obama this past election. People may have different reasons. Some Haitians voted for Obama because they believe that he is for poor people. Others think he is pro immigrant and wanted to thank him for the TPS he gave Haitians recently. Some Haitians also voted for Obama just because he is Black. That's OK too.

However, just like the other groups after voting for a candidate who wins an election, the Haitian community should expect something in return. We have issues within the Haitian Diaspora living in the US as well as back home in Haiti.
