Dominicans want all Haitians out of the country, fearing cholera contamination

It was reported that a group of residents in the Municipality of El Penon in the Dominican Republic has mounted street protest against Haitians living in the region due to the cholera outbreak in the neighboring country of Haiti.

Last Saturday, Dominican protestors burned tires on the streets and prevented normal day to day activities in the municipality of Penon by blocking streets, throwing rocks and bottles, demanding that all Haitians leave El Penon.

The fear by the Dominicans came as a result of a Haitian who was diagnosed with the cholera epidemic in the country. Wilma Louwes who is Haitian was treated for cholera in a hospital in the Dominican Republic and released in good health. However, according to haitilibre.com, "He was denied access to the apartment he rented with his girlfriend for 3 years, apartment located at 46, Julia Pena street in San Martín sector of Higuey. "

Currently, there are close to 1,000 Haitians or people with a Haitian link living in the region of El Penon. A large percentage of them are undocumented, do not have adequate means to support themselves and have been discriminated against. The new label of cholera is just one more thing they have to deal with in a foreign country where they have not been welcomed.

What should the Haitians living in Dominican Republic, specifically in the region of Penon, do following this incident?

Should the Dominican government provide additional security to the Haitians living in Penon?

Do you think all Haitians currently living in the Dominican Republic should pack and live for Haiti?

Your opinion counts. Please comment

It is understood that Where there is true cilization, hatians are very welcome and treated as human being.Otherwise, it is like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire and this is your case and many other hatians out there.

To stop this people
with their discrimination and their acts of assassination against hatian we definitely should stop trading with them, and get our products from other country. Our land is as fertile as theirs but unfortunately we have no agronomist and even a lemon, a coconut etc. should be bought over there.

But as a people they hate so much, we got to make up our mind and

Once again the two small nations do not have a good understanding about the impact of the current health issue.

Now we Haitian, Dominican, and other nations live in the island should combine with our capacities in healh resourses to stop the cholera spread and heel people who are infected by this epidemic.

Anytime something representes a threat for the Dominicans; they emotionally go to a violent way against Haitians, who themselves are running away from a haitian unstable life style.

After all, they are people just as you, Dominicans! I am tired to see and hear about those non

Incredible, that must not happen.

I know they don't like us here, we are treated not like even any dog, always complaining that haitians get all the jobs .So I've been living here for six years, things are the same, we are nothing in this country.

I left HAITI for bad situations, got here, finding jobs in the turism and I take care of my family but now dominican government saying not to hire haitian people in anything for the moment because we are all sicks of Cholera .What shall we do, leaving the country, where should we go, things are worst back

I think that they should rappatriate all haitians living in Santo Domingo, send all dominicans living in Haiti back to their country and close the border.

And let see who will suffer the most economically.

We as a country, buy all our products from Santo Domingo.

If we stop doing it, they will be begging us to open up the damn custom for sure but to do that, we will need some strong leaders (so far, I don't see
