During his remarks, Bishop Saturné spoke in particular of the younger generation of Christian Haitians, who would soon reach adulthood. He wants to commit much of his pastoral duties towards helping them engage their faith more confidently. This call-to-action to young Christians to embrace their faith-based values comes in the face of the continuing spiritual devastation the 2010 earthquake wrought the inhabitants of the island.
Bishop Saturné stressed that ". . . the construction of physical buildings is not enough; we must rebuild the Haitian people." Jacmel diocese sustained damage only second to Port-au-Prince resulting from the earthquake.
He called on the government of Haiti to develop vocational training programs, and to make public education available to all young people. He also addressed the topic of protests that have been over-taking some parts of Haiti. The protests have been in response to 2011 elections, which put Michel Martelly into the office of the presidency of Haiti. He took to task the Provisional Electoral Council, whom he criticized as a less than honest electoral body. He seemed to suggest that the lack of integrity the Provisional Electoral Council has shown in its electoral duties has led to the mass protests in the country.
