Pignon In Haiti, Nord Department

Pignon is naturally well protected town against possible tornadoes and tropical storms that are frequent in the area. It is situated in a valley that is safeguarded by gigantic mountains.

Jean Guillaume de Pignon, a French tradesmen and a plantation owner founded this beautiful town of Pignon in 1699. He settled his family in the village at the foot of the mountains, shortly after the Treaty of Ryswick was signed with Spain.

Pignon has rich agriculture. The town is a major producer of Lifestock, tobacco, cocoa, sugarcane, mangoes, bananas and coffee. Alcoholic beverages made out of sugarcane supply for the most part the local economy of the region. Molasses, syrup and Clarin are local products usually sold in the local market

Hospital Bienfaisance is a major medical facility serving the entire region by providing a variety of medical services. The Hospital is equipped with some of the most current equipment and trained staff

As it is the case in many towns in Haiti, many streets in Pignon are unpaved. The town has a 3500 feet long unpaved airport called Pignon Airport. Mission Aviation Fellowship offers flights from this local airport.
