Continental Airlines to start flying to Haiti this summer

The "Haitian Joudalist" just learned that Continental Airlines will start flying to Haiti this summer. This is good news for the Haitians who travel to the United States. It means more options for theme as well as cheaper airfare. According to the announcement, Continental Airlines will start flying between Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and Toussaint L'Ouverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince on June 9, 2011. At the beginning, Continental Airlines will schedule three weekly flights to Haiti: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Furthermore, the four hour flights will be assured by a Boeing 737 with a capacity for 160 passengers. Flights will leave Newark, New jersey at 9:25 a.m. to arrive at Toussaint L'Ouverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince at 12:15 p.m. Continental Airlines will leave Haiti at 1:20 p.m. to arrive at Newark Liberty International Airport at 6:15 p.m.

This is definitely good news for the Haitians travelers. Now instead of two major airlines flying from U.S. to Haiti, it will be three major airlines. In this case, the more airlines we have serving Haiti, the better it will be for the public.

Why Continental Airlines - Why Now?

As the new player in Haiti sky, Continental Airlines will go head to head with American Airlines, competing for Haitian passengers from New York and New Jersey area. To a lesser extent, it will also provide competition to Spirit Airlines as well. I would like to go a little bit further by saying that Continental Airlines just made a strategic move by deciding to start flying to Haiti in June of 2011.

As Haiti is expected to rebuild its infrastructure in the following years, this will encourage more investment and more commercial activities with the U.S. and the world. This will directly affect air travel in a positive way. Also, new International airports are expected to be open in Haiti in just a few years.

It is estimated that in five years, the number of people traveling to and from Haiti will double.

Does anyone know why we did not have more competitions between the airlines that fly to Haiti?

Why has it always been American Airlines?

Why was American Airlines capable of increasing their fare whenever they feels like?

I am just hoping with the introduction of Continental Airlines into the Haitian Airline market, that travelers will be able to have more control.

Do you think that Continental Airlines flying to Haiti is good news?

Do you think it is about time we have our own airline?

The reason why we didn't have more competitions between the airlines is because AA is "BIG" all over the world.

AA is NOT the only airlines who increase their fare whenever they want to, they all do it whenever.

Yes, it is very good news for Haiti that Continental will be flying soon. The Haitians will have more choices now. It 's about time we have our own airline but remember, we cannot handle

especially an airline.
