Every century is graced by certain men who have helped to write the course of many countries, including their own. At the turn of the 20th Century, in 1904 to be exact, Haiti gave birth to just one of its contributions to that circle.

When Emile Saint-Lot first caught the fever to defend his country, he was all but a boy, witnessing first-hand the military invasion by the US, which occupied Haiti between 1915 and 1937. He would go on to study and practice journalism and to teach law, finally becoming a senator and civil court chief justice. His election as senator of the West on the 19th of June, 1946 came a year after his taking the role of Haiti's first United Nations Ambassador. He also served as a Security Council member, with the task of voting on whole nations' independence. He would cast this powerful vote for countries like Libya (about whose independence he presented an impassioned speech to the UN in 1957), Somalia and Israel.

Independent Expert on Haiti's Situation of Human Rights, Michel Forst of United Nations has resigned. This announcement was confirmed MINUSTAH's spokesperson. MINUSTAH is a peacekeeping mission working in Haiti. The spokesperson confirmed this announcement to the Caribbean Journal. He said UN Human Right Council's recent session held during the 3rd week of March, 2013 that Forst's resignation was completely on personal grounds and that Forst served Haiti as independent expert on Human Rights for 6 years since 2008.

In his final address to Human Rights Council, Forst, a native of France, said that he was really disappointed in Haiti's Rule of Law as well as human rights. He strongly disapproved a few aspects that included:
• Magistrate nomination for partisan or political ends.
• Arbitrary arrests.
• Extended pretrial detention.
• Threats given to journalists.

The former Prime Minister of Jamaica, P J Patterson has cried shame on the United Nations and their recent invocation of their right to legal immunity after the deaths of thousands of Haitians from a cholera outbreak caused by UN aid workers on site in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake.

The decision by the UN, announced weeks ago by the Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, has been met with censure by many as the organization, in taking this step after a suit was filed against them, has denied the families of the thousands who have suffered any claim to damages sustained from the epidemic.

After a widely criticized decision made by the United Nations to invoke its immunity after a suit filed in the wake of the 2010 Cholera outbreak in Haiti, that has caused the deaths of over 8,000 Haitians, some say the most disappointing thing is the brevity of the official dismissal. The invocation of the UN's right to legal protection within a country in which it operates was a one-sentence cap to three years of illness and death, including the 15-month effort to gain compensation for those affected by the outbreak said to have been caused by UN peacekeepers from Nepal who entered the country after the January 2010 earthquake to offer aid to victims.

Regardless of what angle you are looking at it, we all can agree there has been great injustice done to the Haitian population with the introduction of the Cholera epidemic in Haiti by the UN. May be some are still ensure on whether or not this illness was a gift from the UN to us. In this case let's analyze the facts. Several independent studies support this claim. The only group so far who would not admit to that is the United Nations themselves.

Suspecting that their claim of not being involved "Ni De Pres or Ni de Loin" with the Cholera outbreak in Haiti, last week, the United Nations secretary general, Ban Ki-moon, rejected a legal claim for compensation filed in 2011 on behalf of cholera victims in Haiti, stating that they were "not receivable" because of the United Nations' has diplomatic immunity.

The United Nations has formally declared that that they will not compensate any victim of the cholera outbreak in Haiti. The UN has invoked its legal immunity to rebuff claims from attorneys for over 8,000 people killed by the Cholera outbreak, under section 29 of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the UN.

Marc Louis Bazin who was functionary of the United Nations and Minister of Finance and Economy in the Haitian government was born on March 6th, 1932. The military which had seized power made him the Prime Minister in June 1992.

Grew To Be a Favorite of US

Soon Marc Louis Bazin became the President of Haiti and continued in the post for a year. He was the favorite Haitian presidential candidate for the Bush administration in US. The military dictatorship was harming foreign relations and the government had gone in for free elections.

Ban Ki-moon the United Nations Secretary General has announced Carl Alexandre's name as his Deputy Special Representative for United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.

Kevin Kennedy Replaced

Kevin Kennedy has been replaced by Carl Alexandre. Kevin had served in that position with dedication from April 2010 to December 2012, for which the Secretary General was very grateful.

After the 2010 earthquake, Kevin had made valuable contribution to Haiti. On March 1st, Carl is expected to take on the functions of Kevin. From January 14th, the interim period, Ross Mountain of New Zealand has been appointed by the Secretary General.

Cholera has been Haiti's worst health problem for the past few years. From 2010 to the present, there has been a series of outbreaks of this contagious, deadly disease, claiming the lives of about 8,000 Haitians and hospitalizing thousands of men, women, and children. With the country's health care insufficient for its people and in poor conditions and without immediate action, the outbreak could get worse in the next few years to come.

To address Haiti's cholera and health care problem, the United Nations, who has been very active in helping out the country since the 2010 earthquake, delegated the Doctor Paul Farmer from the United States as the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon's special advisor for Community Based Medicine and Lessons on Haiti last December. Several of Farmer's duties are to assist in building support for the fight against cholera in the country and give advice and education on the different medical techniques and alternatives that could be utilized and applied in Haiti and other affected places.
