Office of Investment Facilitation Center (CFI) in Cap Haitien

Haiti's speedy and successful introduction to the world market is dependent on the investments the country acquires both locally and internationally from the different sectors. To make sure that the country is being able to attract more and more investments in so as to develop economically, the government Center for Investment Facilitation (CFI) that promotes and facilitates private investments to the country.

With the proclamation of CFI's former director Laurent Lamothe as Hawaii's new Prime Minister earlier this year, Mr. Karl Jean-Louis was since given the task to head the responsibilities of the autonomous body. The CFI is the union of the public and private sectors in further developing Haiti in terms of its economy through investment opportunities. This is for the Haiti's government and its departments to gain support in the different projects that aim for the development and welfare of the country and its citizens. With its slogan to the rest of the world, "Haiti is now open for business". The CFI has been said to be able to have helped establish more than a hundred companies and have provided about 60,000 jobs through the years.

Peintures Caraibes SA to join Caracol Industrial Park in North of Haiti

Haiti President Michel Martelly toured the Caracol Industrial Park grounds to see how construction is progressing, at what will be a central manufacturing site in the Caribbean. Located in North Haiti, the U.S.-financed park has been home to South Korean clothing manufacturer Sae-A Trading Co. Ltd., its first tenant. A second tenant, Peintures Caraibes SA has just been approved to occupy a site.

Peintures, a Haitian paint manufacturer, has cut a deal with paint-giant Sherwin-Williams to export its proprietary product, as well as Peintures own manufacturing brand. Penintures CEO, Pierre Yves Gardere, will hire 167 start-up employees, with the goal of reaching 350 employees in total.

Mr. Karl Jean-Louis, Head of the Investment Facilitation Center (CFI)

Haiti is a country of hidden treasures, and recently of smart investment opportunities. This is what the country's Investment Facilitation Center has been promoting for the past six years since its creation in the year 2006. The autonomous institution encourages the private sector both inside and outside Haiti in investing on Haiti and assisting the country's government in its projects. To date, CFI has already been able to help more than a hundred companies in successfully establishing themselves in Haiti, which are valued to be around 900 million U.S. dollars. It boasts its advantage as the perfect investment opportunity in the Caribbean because investors are in turn fully supported by the government.

HASCO And Its Past Operations In Haiti

Haitian American Sugar Company, SA (HASCO) was one of the largest refineries in Haiti. It operated from 1912 to 1987, making it the country's oldest sugar refinery at that time. HASCO was an American business venture aimed at producing and selling sugar and other sweet products in Haiti, as well as in the United States. It was owned by Charles Steinham, Franck Copay and John Christie, who registered the company with $5 million in capital.

HASCO's operation in Haiti was not always smooth. As a matter of fact, it was affected by a political turmoil in the country in 1915. Like other American businesses in the country, HASCO reeled from the effects of the country's political challenges. Such challenges posed danger to foreign ventures in the country and it was believed to have been the cause of the U.S. marine invasion in 1915. The U.S. occupation lasted for 19 years.

CFI Director Karl Jean-Louis Seeks Investment Opportunities for Haiti

Karl Jean-Louis, Director of Investment Facilitation Center (CFI), recently opened an office in Cap-Haïtien. Jean-Louis wants to attract a group of multi-lingual, capable, and committed professionals to provide resources, research, and act on investment opportunities as they appear. He wants the CFI to be proactive, productive, and develop working relationships with the great north Chamber of Commerce.

The CFI's goal is to highlight local projects in the great north and east regions of Haiti, ripe for investment. To this end, CFI intends to nurture potential investors and steer them towards developing investment opportunities in local areas. The Cap-Haïtien Chamber of Commerce's role is to assist both CFI and potential investors to develop initiatives for investment opportunities and oversee them as they progress.

Call for strike today in Haiti against the rise of fuel prices

There wasn't supposed to be any activity on the streets in Haiti this Monday, march 28. Haitian unions called for a one day strike on Monday to protest the increase in fuel price by the Haitian government.

Based on the new rate, the gas prices were to increase as follows: The price of one gallon of one gallon is to be increased by 55 cents, or from $4.10 to $4.65, US. One gallon of diesel would jump to $1.00, or from 2.77 to 3.77. Finally

The strike called by Haitian Union was to start at 6:00am, on Monday and the goal was to force the Haitian government to bo back to their decision and continue to subsidize the fuel

The "Haitian Joudalist" has learned that "Micro-mortgages" will be offered to Haitians as part of a new program funded by the International donors of Haiti. Former President Bill Clinton stated that this type of mortgage will be offered to the majority of people in Haiti, including the very poor.

Welcome to the world of Bills in Haiti

Does this mean that from now on, Haitians in Haiti will be able to feel the heat of "High Stress" that we, the Haitian Diaspora" have become accustomed to in the US and Canada?

Don't take me wrong, it will probably be a good thing for the people in Haiti to have access to funds. I just want them to know that they need to be smart about that and use it in a way that will make them become more financially independent.

An important case of a fraud in banking has taken place in Haiti. One of the biggest issues in Haiti is that for whatever crimes are committed, the concerned people are not held accountable. The same mistakes are being made over and over again.

Gerard Dumont Vanishes With Millions Of Dollars

The Allied Irish Banks were defrauded of $750 million by a trader based in Baltimore. There was also a particular Gerard Dumont who was the owner of a Mini Bank in Haiti. The bank was called Bureau de Change Gerard Dumont. In the late eighties, it closed down suddenly.

Sae-A trading South Korean company to create Haitian jobs

Sae-A trading, a Garment Company from South Korea plans to open its factory in Haiti and create 20,000 jobs. The factory will be located in the new industrial park located in the North of the country, away from the Republic of Port-au-Prince. The new park is expected to create more than 65,000 jobs and about 5,000 homes nearby.

In 1990, there were over 100,000 garment workers in Haiti. This has decreased to 28,000 today. The Haitian Prime Minister Bellerive admitted that this new deal with the South Korean Garment Company will be the biggest foreign investment in Haiti ever.

10,000 jobs are expected in Haiti Garment Industry

The job market is expected to be booming in Haiti in a relatively short period of time. If you are able and willing to work, you will be able to find job in Haiti.

The "Haitian Joudalist" learned that South Korea, The United States and the World Bank just signed an agreement to created at least 10,000 jobs in Haiti in the garment manufacturing industry. The Korean clothing producing company, Sae-A will create a brand new industrial park in Haiti just for this operation.

We are looking at Haiti in the near future to become one of the leading exporters of clothing products for the world. The Haitian government is in the planning phase of constructing this new industrial park. It is expected to be located in the North, close to the capital. New port and roads will be built to facilitate transportation.
