About The International Jazz Festival
The concert venue was once a plantation for sugarcane. On Tuesday, he will host a private performance for Pamela While, the US Ambassador, at her residence. On reaching a Jacmel Hotel he stated that it was really cool to be there and the people were really beautiful.
The International Jazz Festival is in its seventh year and scheduled from Friday to 26th January. More than 2 dozen jazz musicians are expected From Cameroon, Mexico, Spain and Brazil.
History On Bandford Marsalis
He is a bandleader, saxophonist and composer from America. Bandford Marsalis, D.Mus was born on August 26, 1960 to music professor and pianist Ellis Louis Marsalis, Jr. and Dolores (nee Ferdinand). Well known for his Quartet, he performs with classical ensembles and as a soloist also. The Buckshot Lefonque group has been led by him. His father and brothers are also jazz musicians. His career in music began in 1980. He was studying music at Berkley College and as student also he toured Europe to perform on the saxophone and alto.
He played with Clark Terry and Lionel Hampton in 1981 and continued to work with him till 1985. From the period 1985 to 1995 he joined Sting the bassist and singer of pop Band, The Police, Omar Hakim, Darryl Jones and Kenny Kirkland are the other notable jazz musicians he played with. He also accompanied his brothers as well. He experienced the transition period with dwindling audiences for jazz from 1995 to 2007 since synthesized music that was computer based replaced jazz music.
Career From 2008 To 2012
From 2008 to 2010 he performed for Broadway and classical music projects. He received the 2011 NEA Jazz Masters Award along with his brothers and father in 2011. Along with Joey Calderazzo he released the first duo album named Songs of Mirth and Melancholy on his own music label.
The world premier of his album was held on June 29th, 2011 at Koerner Hall during the TD Toronto Jazz Festival. The University of North Carolina awarded him the Honorary Doctorate for Music on May 15, 2012. In Charlotte, NC, at the Democratic National Convention he performed for the Star Spangled Banner on September 5, 2012.
