After joining the United Nations, both the developing nations Haiti and Sri Lanka have shared goals in commonat home and internationally, note Dr. Kohona. Over 2 centuries back, one of the first nations to gain independence from the French colonial rulers was Haiti.
After gaining independence, the struggle against colonization continued. Amidst this struggle, they continued extending support to other countries in the region. Both the nations have been the Non Aligned Movements' active members, elaborates Dr.Kohona.
Enhancing Cooperation and Closer Relations
Dr. Kohona also stated that in Haiti, Sri Lanka has been the main contributor of troops to the United Nations Stabilization Mission. Mr. Jean Wesley Cazeau mentioned the accomplishment and strength of the South-South Cooperation and the positive role Sri Lanka played in providing assistance to Haiti.
He emphasized that the diplomatic ties established would help in enhancing cooperation and closer relations in the cultural, socio economic and political fields so that both countries benefit mutually from the same.
