A case too hot to handle. Judge Joseph Jeudilien Fanfan who was in charge of the rape case between Me Joshue Pierre-Louis and Danielle Marie Bernadin now has to worry about his own safety.

According to the information received at Haiti Observer office, Judge Joseph Jeudilien Fanfan received Death threat in case he remove the travel ban on former Justice Minister and current CEP President, Mr. Joshue Pierre-Louis. The alleged victim, Danielle Marie Bernadin, was heard by Judge Joseph Fanfan Jeudilien, accompanied by his lawyers.

Reynold Georges is confident that Judge Joseph Fanfan Jeudilien would be back on its decision as the situation did not for this action.

Rene Civil, arrested several times for his criticism of Haiti's government, was recently released after 16 months locked up on fraudulent charges. Active in left-wing politics, member of several grassroots activist organizations, he began as head of Jeunesse Pouvoir Populaire (JPP) after President Aristide's return from exile. Civil entered ghettos of Port-au-Prince, inspiring young people to join JPP in the fight for democracy. Rene Civil provided young people, not only an education to escape the mentality of their upbringing; he also provided financial means.

To educate and enlighten Haitian youth, Rene Civil has empowered activists to challenge any issue in Haiti's corrupt political system. He has advocated on a variety of issues facing people of Haiti. In particular, he is an impassioned supporter of the poorest Haitians. Shortly before his arrest in 2006, he gave an eloquent speech about violence among the poor, its sources and implicit impact. Violence, according to Civil, is a lack of many basic rights and necessities. It is a lack of food, of livable shelters, of being uneducated that gnaws at the souls of Haiti's poorest.

We have new information on the rape case of Josue Pierre-Louis.

New information coming from the father of the rape victim would suggest that the team working for Josue Pierre-Louis is willing to use cash and influence to keep the case from going any further.

It has been disclosed that the team defending former Justice Minister and actual President of the CEP, Losue Pierre-Louis, have been trying to buy the opposition. The father of the alleged rape victim said says that the Haitian government offered his daughter $300,000.00 and a job at a consul office outside of the country if she would drop her rape case against Josue Pierre-Louis.

Malya Villard-Appolon, the leader of KOFAVIV (Commission of Women Victims for Victims), has been included in one of the top ten heroes of CNN. Her inclusion was attributed to her efforts and campaigns to protect rape victims and to stop such a crime in Haiti. Malya Villard-Appolon was a two-time victim of rape herself. She was raped in 1992 and in 2003, while her daughter suffered the same fate. Despite this, however, Appolon did not give up. Instead, she established KOFAVIV and vowed to seek justice not just for herself and for her daughter but for all the women in Haiti, where the incidences of rape have been increasing.

At the age of 22, Robert 'Boby' Duval, a popular soccer player sat as Haiti's political prisoner in a jail cell. He knew one thing and that was, his country required a change soon. He was imprisoned for one and half years for playing a major role in the Democratic Movement which could affect Haiti positively.

Haiti's Petion-Ville now has a new mayor. Reports said that the government revoked former Mayor Claire Lydie Parent's mandate. According to Minister of the Interior and Local Authorities Ronsard St. Cyr, the revocation will take effect for over a year. Yvanca Jolicoeur Brutus is now Petion-Ville's new mayor. She was installed recently and is expected to receive assistance from officials Kerna Duval and Dominique Saint-Roc.

Claire Lydie Parent confirmed the revocation but she said that she was not aware that the government was making such a decision. The incident came after Parent issued a statement wherein she blamed government supporters for bringing trouble to the city. In her statement, Parent said that people in Petion-Ville are now suffering because the municipal government's function has been limited. She claimed that government supporters are creating trouble in the city in order to prevent the municipal government from doing its job to the fullest.

Two universities in South Florida have expressed their appreciation towards alumni and Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe for his political efforts and contribution. Lamothe received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Barry University, where he graduated in 1996. He got a degree in Political Science at the university, which also gave the award to two other alumni - podiatric physician Dr. Luis Marin and Mimi Watson Sutherland. Sutherland spearheads Jackson Medical Center's GATE program.

Lamothe welcomed the award, saying that it was such an honor to receive such recognition from his alma mater. If not for Barry University, he would not be the man he is today, Lamothe added. The award is given to Barry graduates who have made great achievements in their fields, as well as those who uphold the university's values and mission. Business leaders, politicians, coaches, and teachers, among others, have been recognized in the past.
