It has been Reported by some major news organizations that Jojo Lorquet, a protégé of President Martelly has been arrested for fraud.

According to the source, he was charged with making false National Palace ID cards and selling them to people who would use that card to commit frauds. Report also indicated that Jojo Lorquet was also involved illegal activities and fraudulent transaction in Customs.

There is currently a major operation in Haiti with list of 84 people in high government positions being sought by Haitian justice and law enforcement officials for all types of crimes an fraud. Many very close and long-time associates of President Michel Martelly are either in jail or in hiding.

Officials who were investigating the assassination of Mireille Durocher Bertin said, after two weeks of the murder, that they were in complete darkness. Mireille Durocher Bertin was a right-wing critic of the then President of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide. The murder caused strains with Washington and it was accused that the Interior Ministers of the Aristide administration were involved in the assassination and that the orders of the murder were issued by Aristide himself.

On the day of assassination, Mireille Durocher Bertin was traveling in a white Subaru. The car was blocked in broad daylight and the assassins can riding in red Mitsubishi and shot the front tire (on the side of the driver) of the victim's car and then with automatic weapons, shot from both sides of the Subaru. This killed Mrs. Bertin who was a popular lawyer and a 35-year-old mother of 4.

Senior Presidential Advisor Joseph Lambert is being investigated for death threats against two members of Parliament, Deputies Sorel Jacinthe and Levaillant Louis-Jeune. The death threats occurred while Lambert served as President of the National Assembly. Jacinthe and Louis-Jeune alerted the human rights body, National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (NNDHR), and the agency began an investigation into the allegations.

NNDHR found evidence Lambert did indeed plot to end the lives of Sorel and Louis-Jeune, members of political parties, Espwa and INITE. NNDHR's findings prompted the deputies to file complaints with the Court of First Instance in Port-au-Prince on April 23rd.

The latest Global Peace Index just released showed Haiti's improvement in overall peace is the third best globally beside Chad with the number one position and Georgia, number 2.

The yearly Global Peace Index report had showed an improvement of 15 slots, moving from 107 to 92 in the world.
Interestingly enough, in comparison to our Caribbean neighbors, Haiti has been the country with the greatest improvement in terms of peace over the past year. We are safer than the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, while moving closer and closer to be as safe as Cuba.

The inmates of Haiti's prisons are receiving what has been described as badly needed aid. The distribution of hygiene kits, clothes and shoes began as the initiative of the (DAP) Directorate of Prison Administration which requested the assistance, funded by the Treasury, of Minister Delegate in charge of Human Rights and the Fight against Poverty Extreme, Rose Anne Auguste.

1000 hygiene kits, which include detergent, toilet paper, soap, deodorant and toothpaste, were delivered along with an equal amount of bowls, spoons and cups. Also given to the 810 prisoners (26 women and 784 men) held in Cap-Haitien's prison were the gifts of jerseys, sandals and shorts. The presentation took place with Zéphirin Ardouin, Departmental Delegate, the prison director, Divisional Inspector Romage Marlon and Government Commissioner Lesly Jules as witness.

Clifford Brandt, businessman and entrepreneur, is being brought to justice as the lead defendant of accomplices involved in an abduction network. The network has been targeting victims of kidnapping for many years.

The Central Directorate of the Judicial Police arrested him back in October 2012, after he abducted two youths. The kidnapping laid bare a network of abductors participating in abductions going back several years. Brandt, along with 12 of his co-conspirators will be tried in a criminal court proceeding before a judge.

Judge Me Gabrielle Dominique filed an ordinance specifying charges against 19 defendants including Brandt. Brandt is being indicted on charges of kidnapping, sequestration of people against ransom, criminal conspiracy, false death threats, possession of illegal firearms, and money laundering.

The Martelly-Lamothe government of Haiti seems to be all geared up against corruption. The government has openly declared war against corruption with the Unit for Combating Corruption (ULCC) already pursuing white collared criminals. The unit has arrested several fraudsters and put them in front of the court of law for justice. The government has made it clear that it will fight corruption on all fronts under all circumstances to ensure that the people of Haiti get their rights and that a bright future for the future generation can be secured.

Tourists going to the Dominican Republic are finding the visit a bit dangerous. In this regard the latest victim has been Patrick Alexis. On December 12, 2012, several bandits assaulted him with stones, injuring parts of his body and face.

Who Were The Victims Of Banditry

Patrick Alexis who had been assaulted by bandits received some medical care at the Dominican Republic's local hospital and he is fine at present.

He is not the only Haitian victim of crime. There have been others like the Minister of Haitians Living Abroad, Jean Tolbert Alexis, Paul Evans, Daniel Supplice and Daniel Torment who all have been subjected to assault by bandits in Haiti.

Lack of Basic Services Drives Violent Protests

In Haiti violent protests are a way of life. Haiti, a small island, is home to a population of only 10 million, indicating just how desperate Haitians are to get basic services. Violent protests happen many times in small and larger villages across Haiti.

Typically, protestors set tire-fires in streets, obstruct traffic with rocks, toppled-over cars, and garbage cans, and destroy property. Regrettably, such protests regularly come under fire from three categories of people.

The government of Haiti is usually not in position to help the population. It takes acts of desperation by Haitians to get the Government to pave a road, supply electricity, or distribute food to them.
