Restriction on 23 Dominican-made products, a Haitian victory

Ricart - September 22 2015, 5:39 PM

When you live comfortably in some first-world country like Canada, USA, France, etc, you do not have to worry about the repercussions of an economic war between Dominican Republic and Haiti; consequently, you end up not giving a damn if Haitians back in the island starve to death, as long as you can exact economic blackmail on the Dominican Republic.

These vindictive and self-serving individuals care more about their vendetta against the Dominican Republic, than they do about the economic welfare of their compatriots in Haiti.

EU WARNS PRODUCTS WILL BECOME MORE EXPENSIVE IN HAITI DUE TO BAN ON IMPORTS FROM DR

The restrictions to Dominican exports will increase the prices of staple foods in Haitian markets, warned Tuesday the representative of the European Union in the Dominican Republic, Alberto Navarro.

According to Alberto Navarro, the poorest in Haiti will end up paying the consequences.

Navarro explained that an analysis by the delegation of the European Union felt that the new provisions would cause "a rise of around 40%" of the goods concerned, including wheat flour, maize, edible oil, bread, cement, and detergents.

Navarro and Lorenzo Jimenez, UN representative in Santo Domingo, suggested a dialogue between the authorities of both countries.
