Haiti reactions to the Election Results 2010

The election result announced late on December 7 showed former first lady Mirlande Manigat and Rene Preval's hand picked man Jude Celestin as the two candidates that will be participating in the runoff election.

Michel Martelly has 21.84 percent and Jude Celestin, 22.48 percent, a difference of less than one percent. Supporters of Michel Martelly, wrecking properties, setting barricades with stones, burning tires, or using any means available to disrupt activities. In Les Cayes, It was reported that several government buildings were burned down.

It was reported that the protesters set the headquarter of the UNITE party on fire in the capital. All schools and most businesses stayed closed. Many resident stayed home during the day. Protesters attempted to destroy the offices of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) in Petion-Ville, however, Haitian Police and U.N. Soldiers fired tear gas.

Two people were killed in the South and one, in Cap-Haitian as reported by the Haitian media.

The Haitian president, Rene Preval appealed for calm

we have to elect a big dog like president to see what can be changed.
