The September Equinox is here, learn what it is

The name equinox means "equal night" in Latin. There are two equinoxes every year - around 20 March and 23 September. Theoretically, it is the day of the year when all points on the earth's surface experience the same lengths of daylight and darkness - 12 hours of each. The September equinox occurs the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator - the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth's Equator - from north to south. Since the seasons are opposite on either side of the Equator, equinox in September is also known as the Autumnal (fall) equinox in the northern hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, it's known as the spring (vernal) equinox.

Harvest Moon Is Tonight, Some Facts about September's Full Moon

The full moons of September and October are called by the name 'Harvest Moon'. It is the full moon that occurs closest to the date of the autumn equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, which marks the beginning of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. During this time, the full-looking moon shines from dusk until dawn because the path of the sun, moon, and earth makes a narrow angle with the horizon at sunset. The moon officially turns full when it reaches the spot opposite to the sun. Although, full-looking harvest moon is not always a supermoon, but it is no ordinary full moon; it behaves in a special way. It is special because during the months around the autumn equinox, days close to the full moon, the time of moonrise becomes very close to the sunset time for several evenings in a row and there is an abundance of bright moonlight early in the evening. It shines brighter and more golden than during normal full moons and there is very little darkness between sunset and moonrise. The rising and setting moon looks bigger than we see it high in the sky. In other times of the year, on an average, the moon rises 50 minutes after the sunset. But, on September and October evenings, the moon rises 15 to 35 minutes later of the sunset depending upon the latitude of the location-- it rises only around 30 minutes in the United States and even less in Canada.

Getting a good deal on a new or used car often depends on the time of year you buy it. Most show rooms remain quieter on weekdays. On Friday, they remain keen to meet their weekly targets and it could be a good day to meet them. Make your offer later in the day.

The time around Labor Day when new models jostle for space on dealers' lots, the outgoing models could be the target of bargain hunters. Bank holidays are traditionally a time for getting some great deals on new cars and Boxing Day is an excellent example of this. The beginning of a month may not be a good time for buying a new car and for the very same reason you should buy a car at the end of the month when even dealers remain under pressure to meet monthly targets. Historical statistics say, springtime is not the best time to buy a new car. Because it is the time when the winter weather clears and people come out with pockets full of tax refund checks.
