From once worst enemies, LAPEH now wants to join PHTK in government protest

Haiti is unique in many aspects. However, in the are of politic, no other countries can even come close. After years of fighting the Martelly government, now we are in the process of witnessing one of the most famous reunion. LAPEH is actually contemplating the possibility to join forces with PHTK to fight the government of Jocelerme Privert.

Jean Hector Anacacis who is the Coordinator of the Alternative League for Progress of Haiti (LAPEH) indicated that his party has the same concerns with PHTK as to the willingness for Jocelerme Privert to conduct elections. He also stated that LAPEH may have to get together with PHTK to exercise pressure on Privert to hold the second round of elections.

Friends and supporters of Jovenel Moise in the streets this April 24

Here are some supporters of Jovenel Moise and PHTK in the streets this Sunday, April 24, 2016 demanding that the second tour of the election be held as schedules.

I believe this is a little bit too late as today was the date scheduled or the election; however as we all observed, it was impossible. This is the third date that the elections have been reported.

Does anyone know when we evantually have the election? Should we start asking whether or not free and fair elections are possible in Haiti

Laurent Lamothe and Wilson Laleau invited to Parquet

Government Commissioner Danton Leger is once again making waves. He has invited both former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe and former Finance Minister Wilson Laleau to appear in front of him next week. the chief prosecutors of Port-au-Prince wants to audition former Prime Minister Lamothe on his management of the PetroCaribe funds and also 5 billion gourdes released following hurricane Sandy .

Both former government officials are scheduled for next week. Wilson Laleau is invited to the Parque next Monday at 10:00 a.m. and Mr. Laurent Lamothe, on Tuesday at 10 am

Members of the Independent Commission for electoral verification known

The Independent Commission for evaluation and electoral verification in Haiti is now in place. All five persons that will be responsible for the verification have been nominated. According to a source we can trust, the five members are as follows:

Erick Gaillard,
Marc Donald Jean,
Pierre Wilfrid Sanon,
Gédéon Jean
François Benoît

As you may known, Erick Gaillard was appointed by the Order of Chartered Accountants Haitian ; Marc Jean Donald who is a former senator was appointed by the Episcopal / Anglican Church, Gideon Jean was appointed by former members of the Election Assessment Commission. The Decree nominating these five members will be published shortly in the Gazette

U.S. Senators David Perdue, Marco Rubio and Johnny Isakson want sanctions on Haiti

The pressure continues to build on the Haitian government from inside as well as in the outside. The American government in particular wants immediate elections in Haiti and have been communicating directly and indirectly with the government. Three .U.S. Senators are now asking for sanctions to be imposed on Haiti.

In a letter addressed to the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, Senators David Perdue, Marco Rubio and Johnny Isakson to use every tool to ensure that Haitian authorities to respect the agreement recently signed and conducts elections by the deadline. They want the Government of Privert to work closely with the new CEP to conduc the election as scheduled and to avoid any pretext for postponement.

Laurent Lamothe against Olivier Martelly's involvement in stadium project

Laurent Lamothe admitted that he was against the nomination of Olivier Martelly, the son of President Michel Martelly to head a commission with the objective to supervise construction and renovation works of various parks and stadiums in the country. He judged that this was not useful; however, this position created lots of enemies for him, including people very close to the President

By the was, according to Laurent Lamothe in an interview given recently, his relationship with President Michel Martelly is not what it was when he was Prime Minister. Their relationship has taken a turn for the worst.

About 70 percent of Haitians in treatment for HIV/AIDS lives over 10 years

A new research that just came out would confirms that it is no longer a death sentence for Haitians living with HIV/AIDS.

According to a research published in The New England Journal of Medicine, ten years after a free treatment program was introduced in Haiti for people infected with the HIV/AIDS virus, close to two third of the patients enrolled in the treatment were still alive. Out of 910 patients recruted at a Port-au-prince clinic, between 63 percent and 71 percent of them had survived 10 years.

The study found that the surviving rate in Haiti was similar to the rate found among gay men in the US who started antiretroviral triple therapy in the late 1990s

Ecuador where 30,000 Haitians live, hit by 7.8 magnitude earthquake

A violent 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador last Sunday morning. The death toll has soared to 272 and Vice President Jorge Glas had estimated that more than 2,527 people were injured. There have been reports of extensive damage in the southwest of the country such as Guayaquil and coastal Manabi Province where it is hard to reach the victims. The cities of Manta, Portoviejo and Pedernales were the most devastation but he entire country is affected.

There is a large Haitian community living in Ecuador and some of them are expected to be among the victims of this 7.8 magnitude earthquake. According to the most recent estimates, more than 30,000 Haitians are living in Ecuador. So far, not many relatives and friends have heard about them.

Seven demobilized FAD'H soldiers arrested in St. Mark

April 14, 2016 - Seven (7) demobilized soldiers of Haiti FAD'H were arrested by Haiti national Police after they had occupied the offices of the old building Frecyneau Police Station in St. Mark.

Haiti national Police received the help from MINUSTAH to conduct the operation. There was not shot fired. Upon the arrival of teh Police, some of the demobilized soldiers fled

Information obtained revealed two of the seven soldiers arrested are former Police Officers in St. Mark

Over 200,000 jobs expected at Haiti-Dominican Border in 10 years

Here is a name that most Haitians need to get familiar with, the Bi-national Economic Council Quisqueya or (CEBQ). Last Friday (April 15, 2016) CEBQ unveiled its development project for the Haitian-Dominican border at the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and it is very promising. it is one of the largest global development institution which will be devoted exclusively to the private sector.

The border development project expects to take advantage of the Hope-Help legislation and expects to create over 200,000 jobs at Haiti-Dominican Border in 10 years.
