Haitian Students Face Off with Police over the death of Damael d'Haiti

On Monday, November 13, 2012 Haitian students continued their demonstration over the death of one of their owns. This was the third day of non stop protest, where students are demanding justice for the death of Damael d'Haiti, a student shot and killed by a police officer over the weekend at the School of Law and Social Sciences in Port-au-Prince.

"En Ayiti, Jistis Se moun Ki Ba Tet ou Sa..."

Haitian police and CIMO surrendering the protesters, blocked their exit from the law school, and fired tear gas. It has been reported that many people were affected by the gas. Children returning from school as well as other people going about their activities were affected.

"An Ayiti, Ou Konnin Lè Ouap Soti, Ou Pa Konnin Lè Ouap Rantre"

The victim, Damael d'Haiti who was 24, died Saturday of a gunshot wound during a university party and after students accused a police officer of the killing. The Police officer accused for the shooting was taken to the Judicial Police headquarters for questioning.

I understand that the students were not only protesting.

They actually went to other schools in the Capital demanding that other students join them.

I will not justify this behavior of the Haiti national Police for killing an innocent student.

However, this is the same Police force that usually work from 12 to 16 hours a day. Additionally, lack of equipments available for them. We need a better Police Force.

I will encourage that they conduct a psychiatric test on all Police Officers in Haiti on a yearly

We really need to question those hired to protect us.

They are not protecting us as they are supposed to. Just look at the number of kidnapping.

Clifford Brandt has probably been operating his kidnapping network for years without detection or cover up.

The problem in Haiti is that no one respects the law. A Police Officer just decided to kill someone.

This is the result of not giving value to lives in Haiti.
